Like cats, dogs, and other furry friends, making arrangements for your pet fish before jetting off on holiday is essential.

The good news is that, for short breaks, aquariums are generally fine left to their own devices. Healthy fish can happily go without food for a few days. Put an aquarium’s lights on a timer or turn them off, and its occupants will be okay with you taking a long weekend away, no problem.

But what about longer holidays? Holiday food blocks and automated feeders are one option. However, feeding is only half of the equation. Especially when holidaying for two weeks or more, it’s vital to put additional measures in place before leaving.

With today’s technology, you can automate various all-important processes like plant fertiliser or trace element dosing, evaporation top-off, and even parameter monitoring.
