Sad news has surfaced about the end of Unipac aquarium sands and substrates.
We’ve received the sad news this week that one of Britain’s biggest and longest-standing manufacturers of aquarium sands and substrates is to cease trading. As a result, all Unipac products—including their ever-popular black Limpopo sand—are to be discontinued with immediate effect.
With that, now is your last chance to stock up on Unipac sands and substrates, exclusively while stocks last. Once they’re gone, they’re gone for good.
Among Unipac’s best-selling products in recent years have been:
- Silver sand
- Nyasa sand
- Limpopo black sand
- Kivu sand
- Tana sand
- Maui sand
- Fiji sand
- Samoa sand
Their Maui, Fiji, and Samoa sands have, helpfully, always been available in coarse and fine variants, too, allowing fishkeepers to tailor a particular look and feel of substrate exactly to their needs.
Elsewhere, Unipac is also well known for its coloured, fluorescent, and natural gravels, coloured sand, decorative pebbles, and more.

Unipac has been a staple in the fishkeeping hobby in the UK for decades, with their iconic bags of sand, gravel, and other substrates a common sight in aquarium shops up and down the country.
The news comes as the physical manufacturer of Unipac sands and substrates has closed its doors to the aquarium sector, leaving no other option but to discontinue these products. This means that the products are no longer being made, and availability is limited to remaining stock at retailers. Therefore, it’s recommended to purchase any remaining items from stores soon, should you require a top-up, as they will not be restocked.
