A report from ZSL—the Zoological Society of London—and the UK Sturgeon Alliance is now available to download, containing the two organizations’ ten-year plan to help in the conservation of UK sturgeon focused on increasing numbers of these fascinating and increasingly rare fish in our native waters.
Objective 5 of the report, which looks to address releases from the pet trade, is of particular importance for those of us in the aquarium industry and something we can all play a part in.
With that, it’s vital that members of the aquarium trade speak to customers and clients about the utmost importance of not releasing pet fish, sturgeon or otherwise, into UK waterways. Pet fish continue to pose a massive risk to our native wildlife.
Objective 5 of ZSL and the UK Sturgeon Alliance’s ten-year plan focuses squarely on increased efforts to help achieve a reduction in pet fish releases. Members of the aquarium and pet trades and the public alike are free to download the full UK STURGEON CONSERVATION STRATEGY AND ACTION PLAN 2023–2033 directly from the ZSL website.
