Did you know when surveyed, over 70% of pet owners reported that they regularly played music for their animals? Conducted by Swedish streaming giant Spotify, the platform’s music mavens polled over 5,000 people from around the globe to discover precisely how the planet’s pet owners use music with their furry, feathered, and finned friends.
Spotify users now have access to more than 60 million songs and a wealth of podcasts, available on a so-called ‘freemium’ basis or with a subscription. Of some of its 300+ million monthly active users, seven out of ten pet-owning Spotify fans reported sharing their love of music with their cats, dogs, and other pets.
While the majority of those surveyed suggested that it was their canine and feline friends with whom they enjoyed listening to music the most, a significant number also reported playing music and creating playlists for their birds, rabbits, hamsters, rats, and other pets as well.
Some even displayed a penchant for furnishing their fish, reptiles, and pet bugs with everything from classical masterpieces and easy listening to electronic jams, hip hop, rap, pop, R&B, jazz, rock, metal, and more!
Ever Wondered if Your Pet Snake Might Enjoy Some Synth-Pop?
Because Spotify did. Most pet owners, they claim, believed that their beloved critters of all shapes and sizes regularly enjoyed listening to music.
They report that snakes, chameleons, and iguanas, plus other reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and more. The most popular genres—regardless of species—were considered classical and soft rock.
Spotify’s poll also found that 57% of owners enjoyed dancing with their pets, which begs the question – is it possible to two-step with a tarantula or Irish dance with an iguana?
How to Create a Pet Playlist on Spotify
It couldn’t be easier. First, head to the Spotify website’s pet playlist section. Next, choose your pet. Admittedly, choices are limited, so be bold and pick a similar critter if your pet isn’t listed.
Then answer a few questions about your pet’s personality, tell Spotify their name, and upload a photograph if you’d like. Let Spotify work its magic, and within seconds, you should have the perfect playlist ready to go!
Finally, turn up the volume, gather your pets, and get down to the funky sounds of whatever Spotify has rustled up for you!
