Fluval now boasts a genuinely impressive range of aquarium lights, including many that are Bluetooth-equipped.
Have you got a problem connecting over Bluetooth? If so, you’re not alone. Scroll down for a likely sure-fire 10-second fix! Or read on for some more background.
The current lineup consists primarily of Fluval’s Aquasky, Aquasky 2.0, Plant 3.0, and Marine 3.0 light bars in various lengths and Nano, squared-off versions of the latter two units, all with built-in Bluetooth. Similar systems are also fitted into the hoods of many of Fluval’s complete aquarium and cabinet set-ups, like the popular Roma 90 and older Vicenza models.
Fluval’s LED lights and the FluvalSmart app cater to various applications, from small freshwater tanks to larger saltwater systems. For the most part, they’re okay. Of course, better lights are available, especially for larger, deeper freshwater aquariums and reef tanks with SPS corals and anemones, where even the most powerful Fluval Bluetooth LED lights will struggle.
However, other than that, there’s relatively little to complain about. That’s except the one recurring problem that we continue to hear about week in and week out: “Why won’t my Fluval Bluetooth LED aquarium light connect?”
Thankfully, the almost guaranteed solution is incredibly straightforward. But, for whatever reason, the issue and its solution are rarely discussed outside of the aquarium trade and go almost entirely unpublicised online.
Why Won’t My Fluval Bluetooth LED Aquarium Light Connect?
In the overwhelming majority of cases, the solution to Fluval LED lights not connecting via Bluetooth to the FluvalSmart app is as straightforward as can be.
You simply need to hold your device closer. A LOT closer.
That’s it. It’s a problem that primarily seems to affect the built-in LED light fixtures on Fluval tanks like the Roma, Shaker, Siena, and Vicenza ranges. That said, we’ve also encountered the same issue with other Fluval products, including the manufacturer’s best-selling Aquasky 2.0 LED light units.
If the light is powered on but will not connect to your phone or another Bluetooth device, simply hold that device right next to the unit. Sometimes, a phone needs to be physically sat on top of the light bar to connect. Once connected, it may work over a greater distance. In some cases, though, it needs to be held this close and used in similar proximity to the light every time to work properly.
Anecdotally, we’ve found that the issue seems more prevalent with the FluvalSmart app on Android devices and less so with iPhones.
At the same time, while simply getting closer seems to fix the issue in 99% of cases, some Fluval LED lights appear to come with faulty Bluetooth from the factory. If getting closer doesn’t work, we’d advise returning new units for a replacement or refund. Alternatively, where that’s not possible, you can contact Fluval UK for further information and support.
