Aquarium Ranked Top Among Favourite Dating Spots

The best place to take a first date, according to Bristolians, is the local aquarium.

Bars, cafes, and restaurants have long been go-to dating spots. But what if someone wants to make more of an impact? It’s a question pondered recently by the online dating website, Eharmony. That’s as the dating website’s team headed to Bristol to compile their latest so-called Love Report.

Eharmony polled 500 locals to find out their favourite dating spots in the city. The result was a list of 20 specific locations favoured by the city’s daters. And at the top of the list? Bristol Aquarium. That’s right. Bristol Aquarium beat off stiff competition to rank top among Bristolian’s favourite dating spots in 2022.

The popular public aquarium came just ahead of Watershed in second place, a buzzing arts venue with a cinema and café bar in the heart of the city. Bristol Aquarium also ranked ahead of third-place Clifton Observatory and the city’s planetarium in fifth place.

Around 100 of the 500 daters polled recommended Bristol Aquarium for a date. The aquarium offers visitors the chance to get up close with sharks, rays, a giant octopus, and more. There’s also a huge range of Amazonian and other tropical fish on display in huge tanks with underwater tunnels.

Aquariums in Lancashire (and nearby)

Closer to home, those of us in and around Rossendale don’t necessarily have a public aquarium on our doorsteps. However, there are several options within an hour’s drive. These include Sea Life Manchester at the Trafford Centre, Sea Life Blackpool on the Lancashire Coast, and Blue Planet Aquarium at Ellesmere Port in neighbouring Cheshire.

Another option is Bolton Aquarium – part of Bolton Museum, Aquarium and Archive. Although not on the same scale as bigger Sea Life locations and the likes of Blue Planet, Bolton Aquarium still houses over 70 varieties of fish originating from around the world.

Just over an hour away, there’s also the aquarium at Chester Zoo. Alternatively, those looking to make a day of it can head a couple of hours cross-country to The Deep. Over the Pennines from Lancashire in the Yorkshire port city of Hull, The Deep is home to thousands of sea creatures, including seven species of shark. It’s also a landmark centre for marine research.

Furthermore, there’s always the possibility of introducing a date (or anyone else for that matter!) to your own aquarium! Why not find out how we can help with our aquarium design and installation service? With fish tank maintenance taken care of as well, all that’s left is for you to enjoy it – just like a public aquarium!
